CHAPTER I
PREFACE

A.    Background
Observation is a very important activity in knowing how to teach well. In this case, we, as English Education Department students, did an observation at SMP Negeri 3 Kalibagor. This observation report is compiled to fulfill the assignment of TEFL (Teaching English as Foreign Language) course.
The teacher must be able to choose method that is efficient and effective so that learning objectives can be optimally fulfilled. Implementation of a learning method requires one or more techniques. Not only learning methods, a teacher must also have knowledge of appropriate models, media and learning strategies used in a teaching and learning process.

B.     Formulation of The Problem
  1. What is the learning model that used in the class?
  2. How is the activity in the learning process?
  3. What is the weakness of the learning model in the class?
  4.  What is the learning model that more suitable for the class?

CHAPTER II
RESULT

On Monday, October 28, 2019 we have observed class IX A in English subject at SMP Negeri 3 Kalibagor with Mr. Sudiro, SPd. as an English teacher. This school uses the 2013 curriculum. The material is about Procedure Text. This observation aims to find out the learning activities in the class. Based on our observations, the learning model that is used in class IX A is Project Based Learning model and using Discussion method. The number of students who were present at the time of observation was 26 students.

A.    Learning Activities
1.      Teacher begins the class by saying greeting to the students.
2.      Teacher asked the students whether they already make group or not and decide about what recipe they will make.
3.      Teacher review about the last meeting material.
4.      Students gather with their group by the teacher’s instruction
5.      Teachers give worksheet to each group about the recipe of American Chicken Soup.
6.       Students answer the teacher’s question about the kind of food (soto variation)
7.      Teacher gives the real application of procedure text: cooking show on television
8.      Students translate the ‘transition expressions’ in the worksheet that guided by the teacher.
9.      Students are asked to do the first assignment of the worksheet (split the transition expressions in the box)
10.  Teacher gives feedback of the students’ work.
11.  Students are asked to the second task in the worksheet using their group’s procedure text.
12.  Teacher checks the result of each group and give them feedback.
13.  Students submit their work to the teacher.

B.     The Weakness of The Learning Activity
1.      The class is too noisy.
2.      The active students are always the same (not all students are willing to express their opinion or state their answer loudly)
3.      The male students are more active than female students.
4.      The students seem pay attention to the teacher and material but when the teacher them about the material, they don’t fully understand.

C.    The More Suitable Learning Activity
We still use the Project Based Learning for the procedure text material, but we add more activity in the class.
1.      The class must start with spiritual activity like saying basmallah in the beginning of learning and saying hamdallah at the end of learning.
2.      In the core of learning teacher must ask to students who never answer the teacher’s question, so the passive students will be more active in the class.
3.      Teacher can use video and picture to make students more interested in the learning activity so the students it more active and the class is more conducive.

CHAPTER III
CLOSING
Conclusion
From the observation, the teacher was using Project Based Learning model. The method is already in accordance with the students' ability and the steps of learning are in accordance with the existing rules. According to our group there is still need new learning activities. But for the model, we remain following Project Based Learning. To make classroom situation more conducive and active, the teacher should use more variant learning media. The teacher need to ask  students who never answer the teacher’s question, so the passive students will be more active in the class.
